Who has ever done their garage floor themselfs with some sort of sealant or paint? I'd like to hear your thoughts and what you did. I dont have a nice floor, but it is concrete, so I'm not hiring someone to do it.
Thanks Guys!

X2. Don't waste your time or $$. I totally regret doing it myself.

Have the concrete polished. Worth every penny. just be careful when it's wet. It gets slippery

When I did the floor in my old garage, first I etched the concrete with muriatic acid. Then I used a roller to paint on this stuff I got at Lowes for $20ish a gallon. It was a dark grey paint. Looked like primer. It worked pretty well. After 5 years, it has started getting thin in the high traffic areas and in the places I have spun the tires. What I liked about it was the cheapness and the fact that it didn't come up in flakes, just sort of wore away. What I didn't like about it was the acid etching.

I don't. But it was grey/dark grey in color and it was about the cheapest floor paint they had.

The biggest thing to worry about for any garage coating is the prep. If you don't prep things properly even the most expensive coatings will come up. Most folks say the best way to prep is to use a concrete grinder (kind of like sanding a wood floor).
Wolverine makes a good floor even though it isn't cheap. http://wolverinecoatings.com/web/?author=1
There is a guy over on garage journel that sells a DIY kit from them. Here is his data from over there.

I was in a grage today where the guy had this roll out thick rubber floor. he said he loves it and it is quite durable. he doesn't weld or drop hot metal parts on it though.

he said stuff like that was fine. it's hard to cut. He had some small cuts here and there but it was still easy to clean
I'm going to get a roll for my shop.

Racedeck makes a snap together floor that a lot of folks like. There is a lot of discussion on floorings over at garage journel. I've learned a lot there for when I'm ready to do mine. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/

My shop floor is going to be impossible to ever clean enough to paint or polish. I just want a surface that I can clean up a little. The rubber floor is like a fresh start.
