I looked at them initially when I was looking for a solution on my truck. I ended up finding some air bags for not much more than what the Timbren kit would have cost. So I went air bags. Not much help I know but I would be running these with no worries if I hadnt stumbled across my deal.

You have overloads on your truck now?

You mean the bumpstops?

They are being used by some as bumpstops but that is not their intended use.

We have them on the old mans towrig, they seem to take out the hard bumps when pulling 14k on the gooseneck, they will help support the weight of the camp but wont help with it leaning over or swaying.

My father ran them on his F150 to help with his slidein camper. They worked well for him.
I ran these on my F150 and really liked it. http://www.activesuspension.com/

I also run them on my YJ as bumpstops and they work great for that. :)

I do have overloads now. The camper loaded will be around 1000-1100lbs when I'm not building the inside. Right now it weights 750lbs-ish which isnt enough weight to catch the overloads.

I've heard good and bad about the Timbrens/Air bags/Sway bars, but Its a good chunk of change to throw out there and its only a marginal help...

If you are just looking for sway control I'd go with a bigger or better rear sway bar. I dont know if the air bags will help much with that but they do help level out a heavy load.

If you were to go the air bag route I've read not to plumb them together. That can increase the sway when cornering or in cross winds.

i have a truck camper (weight about 1200lbs) and i run air bags

with out the bags my truck (05 ctd) was hard to drive, swayed alot and saged hard in rear causing sloppy steering.

with bags i feel comfortable driving pretty much anywhere. for the money i don't think you can go wrong with air bags. i have load rites my buddy runs firestones. they are the same thing basically. took me about 2hrs to install bags laying on my back with hand tools. you def want 2 air lines (one to each bag) infact i think that is the way they tell you to do the install, i forget.

i love the bags when towing and leave around 5 or 10 lbs of air in them at all times cause the truck just plain handles better

just my .02

They have to have a minimum amount of air at all times or you run the risk of ruining the bag. I think it varies by manufacturer but its typically 5-10 PSI.

I have air bags on my 3rd Gen and have been very pleased with their performance. For daily driving I run 25 lbs to level the truck and better ride/handling. For towing I like a lot of tongue weight and 45 lbs in the bags is great for re-leveling the load. I've had them for three years and IMHO, they were money well spent.

yeah i know, that is one of the reasons i said i run 5 or 10 lbs of air in them.

i actually run 14lbs at all times but i didn't feel it was needed to fully explain that.

I guess I missed the part where you listed more than your one reason of "the truck handling better" for running 5-10 PSI in them. :flipoff2:

guess i didn't realize that i was going to be critiqued about how accurate i was in explaining something on the intraweb :flipoff2:

Well hell, now I dont know what I want to do. I've got some many different opinions from people I dont know if I want Bags or Sway Bars.....

I guess the deciding factor will be If I can find a cheap used set or not....

Thanks guys for all your opinions...

Just do bigger sway bars, bags and timbrens... Then go all Shane on it and trade the truck in on an F-450 :stir:

I'll throw out another possible option after some reading today. Traction/ladder bars might help out in the sway department also and better overall handling for the rear of the truck.

I am running Single Bar Traction Bars. But today I came across a stock rear sway bar for Free from a buddy, so I'm going to try bolting that in tonight and try it out this weekend.

I put airbags on my 2009 1500 Ram and at 12psi the truck rides quite nice and the weight from my toolbox doesn't sag the back so much now.

I'll let you know how it tows soon.
