From Bruce on pbb:
Hey guys sorry I should have gotten this info up sooner. Here are the plans for the race...

RCQ movie 930PM friday night in Pine Grove

Fri

3pm Prerun
7pm-830Tech

Sat

7-8:30am Tech
9am drivers meeting
9:30 Staging for race
9:45 Race Ready (not 959:flipoff2:)
10am Race start (lined up or not)

The whole race will be on the new property (pits , start/finish and course). Please check-in at the office for registration and to get your race pack. The course for this 1st race will be about 6 miles with 5 laps. The course goes past your pits each lap so no problem pitting each lap if needed.

We will be setting up for the race Friday AM so please don’t ask about early prerunning on Friday before 3pm because we won’t be ready. The NE property will be 100% shutdown for this race so there are no worries for others being on course and we don’t need to worry for crossing the road for this race also.

Let me know if I missed anything detail wise for the event.

Bruce

I'm in. Looks like the race is only 30 miles. I may even make it without swapping propane tanks.

We will have to play it by ear at this point. My dog has not been doing good the last 2 days. I don't want to drop him off with my mom if he is not going to be able to get up to go out on his own. We gave him a bunch of pain meds and he seems to be doing better this morning so we will see. Hoping for the best.

There's a couple of good same day service radiator repair places down in Baltimore. I'd be looking them up.

North Point Radiator Services made two repairs to my old radiator and they never gave out in all the racing the chassis has seen. Get it fixed and then you have a spare or if the new one doesn't show up in time you're not SOL

SPECTATOR INFO:

Spectators should check-in at the park office to get their wristband. The spectator fee is $7 age 16 and older (15 and under are free). If you are wheeling that day, your wheeling wristband will allow you access to the race venue, however, you will have to park your vehicle and hike in as only competition vehicles and park staff vehicles will be allowed on the NE property during the race.

Spectators can either remain parked in the main parking lot and walk across the street to the pit area/Start-Finish, or can drive down the road to the lower entrance (where Lincoln Road and Molleystown Road intersect), and park there and hike in to spectate.

There will be a map provided highlighting where the hardcore rockcrawling action will be and other good vantage points. Spectators are advised to use extreme caution while out on the property during the race.

Dan and I did some prerunning today. It's bumpy out there. The only real obsticle is running down devil's den. I see the potential for a multi buggy pile up with trucks having no choice but to use rolled or broken rigs for traction.

We had just come down off of devil's den when we had a loud clunking. We stopped and found the yoke nut was gone and when the suspension unloaded at the end of devils den it pulled the yoke off the tc. We also had a cooler line with a hole in it that emptied the tranny for us. It looked burned through but was wrapped in DEI fire sleave. We cut out the bad section, exhaust wrapped it for extra measure, and rewrapped in the fire sleave. We were having a hard time finding someone with a pinion nut to fit. I left to come home to pick my nephew up at the airport and stopped at my shop in Baltimore. I grabbed two pinion nuts. Dan just texted me saying it was back on and ready to roll. So someone had one.....now we have spares.

1. Bigelow
2. Murphy
3. Alan Woodson
4. Lou Levy

As said Miller lost a power steering pump on lap 4 and DNF'd.

Edit: Correction from Pirate which is where I got the above results. Correction: based on corrected time, Alan Woodson was 3rd, Lou 4th. Smoluck 5th, Cochran 6th. Total of 12 finished out of 22 starters.

Nice day for racing. The only thing we changed was the pressure in the rear bumps. It rode well. Dan did an exceptional job driving the new truck and there is plenty of room for it to get faster. It really excelled through the rock sections. We dont know how much the gopro recorded but it should be nice footage.

What fawesome time at the race. Prerunning turned out to be less than stellar, with a mystery hole in one of my tranny cooler lines, and the yoke nut on my D300 somehow came off. Stu fixed the lines, and I searched everywhere for that stupid 7/8 fine thread. Nothing. Pearson came through, and we were ready for the race.
The first lap was nothing spectacular because we only got to prerun about 3/4 of a lap. We knew the truck wasn't going to be terribly fast, but the goal was to finish. We pitted between each lap, mostly for an oil and tranny fluid check. We were able to get two laps per propane bottle, which was surprising. By midway through the 2nd lap, we got the shifting sorted out where Stu would operate the t-case, and I'd just drive. It's a helluva lot easier this way because I could keep my eyes on the course, and it's tough to look down at the shifters. I expect to have to change the shifters because I can't look down with the helmet and neck roll very well. The 4th lap was pretty quick once we really go into that "groove" so to speak. I think I pushed a little harder that time, but at no point in the race did I feel like I was really driving the truck really hard. We were too focused on finishing too much to make a mistake by overdriving it. The suspension worked very nicely, and it really worked better once we got the COs warmed a bit. The last lap was just cruise control it seemed. The fast guys were already done and were working on their 2nd beer at that point, so we didn't have to worry so much about the rear view either. When we got to the finish line, I couldn't believe how many people were out cheering for us. I figured we were about 18th or so, and I was one of the last guys out there. A 7th place was stunning. Like Lou said, not too bad for a shake down race. It was the 4th time the truck was on the trail.
Andy, thanks. Can't wait for you to get to a race to see it for yourself. Your work resulted in a helluva day for us. Huge thanks to Stu for helping prep the truck last week, the codriving, and the smarts to keep the driver's foot out of the gas. Nick did a killer job in the pits, and did everything I could as for. He makes a pretty good partner at cornhole too (we retired undefeated). Randy Wood took care of us like no other; I appreciate it!

Thanks to all of the other competitors who were cheering at the finish line. I'm still in awe of the camaraderie at these events.
Last, thanks to the RC staff and volunteers. We had an awesome time on that course. Can we add more black section rocks, please? :D

Dan, so did you guys have to get out of the truck any on course?

Here is Pearson and I's race recap:
Lap 1: (48 minutes) Automatic circuit breaker in fan wiring trips and causes 1 fan to stop running and it started warming up. Pitted at the end of the lap, hot wired the fan, checked fluids.
Lap 2: (45 minutes) Moving along, getting a feel for the course(no chance to pre run), pit to make sure the fans are both running
Lap 3: (1hr 20 min) As we come to the bottom of devils den we grab an air pocket in the fuel pickup and the motor cuts out. Push the truck off the course, investigate, find some fuel left, off we go. Half mile later lots of racket and bind in drivetrain, stop find out the caliper slide managed to fall out and caliper is binding against the wheel, waste lots of time, remove tire, tie caliper to frame, tire back on, on the way again, pit for fuel, brake fluid, and steering fluid.
Lap 4: (38 minutes) Ok we actually know the course now, have fuel, moving a little better, but skeered to go fast because we only have 1 front brake caliper
Lap 5: (37 mintues) Really wanted to speed it up, but knowing our current position, and that this was the last lap, we wanted to finish it out rather then wrecking or breaking.
