2" links just seem to be too small to have strength here. 0.25" of material around it? 2.5" seems to be overkill and pricey.

i would just run 2". if you are worried about the strength of the aluminium around the shank of the joint get them with a 7/8 shank and have more material surouning the threads.

I am more worried about the small shank size than anything. I want to keep the 1.25" size.

What kind of heims are you going to run?
A 7/8" shank is a pretty strong heim.

I'm going to run the Ballistic Fab cartridge joints. They have a sale today for 15% off.
I think I am going with 7/8 uppers with 1.75" links.

Have you heard of rigs under 5000 lbs that are bending 7/8" shanks? I know at V2R teams running cartridge joints replaced them all with heims before the end of the race because the cartridge joints just didn't hold up and the guts dissenigrated. I doubt yours will see that kind of a workout, and in general, cartridge joints work great on rockcrawlers. I just don't see you abusing your junk hard enough to bend a 7/8" or 1" shank especially in a rear link setup. I could see some high speed collisions doing damage to a front link setup. 2" 7075 is also strong enough as well.

I don't know if it was a currie thing, but Jeff and Odawg both broke their JJ's. I think they were both running the 7/8 flavor. I figured overkill for the lowers because I'm a shitty driver
Heims get real pricey when you start adding up the cost for the misalignment spacers and such. The pile won't see any V2R type abuse, so that shouldn't be much to worry about for me. I am going to do something similar to the poly perf rear kit. Mostly using their frame side mounts. My offset rear pumpkin is a big pita for a truss too.

Dan,
I run currie jj's 1 1/4 on 1.75 7075 links and it is fine. I did manage to tweak a rear lower, but the joint shank was not damaged. So I would say run 2" 7075. If I had to do it over again I would get the spidertrax heat treated chromoly links and do DOM upper links. |

7/8's are fine for the uppers. They don't see as much stress.

dan for the uppers dont was your money on 7075.
I'm running 7/8 shank with 1.5 (.25 wall ) dom uppers. the .25 wall uppers is probably overkill but weight wasn't much of an issue for me.

see post above.
uppers are ballistic joints too. 7/8" shank .25 wall 1.5" DOM no need for aluminum uppers unless you are looking to spend more money and/or save weight.

Good deal. Maybe the pile will climb something next year instead of humping it.

I was checking out the spidertrax links but their lead time kind of kills it.
They place all orders from October on Nov 1st with their supplier. Then Octobers orders ship Nov 30. So 1-2 months lead time depending what part of the month you order in, right now it is allmost 2 months.
